On a 65 442 does the inner fenderwell need to be moved or removed to replace the emergency brake cable from the pedal to the frame?
Or is there room to snake it out/in without removing the inner fenderwell?
Anyone tackled this job?
I can't speak specifically to a 65, but on 73 and 76 big cars loosening it enough to move it a little made the job a lot easier. And I had a lot more patience back then.
'Course then you'll get into rusted bolts and all that. Juice all the bolts before attempting it.
You have to remember when car was built, the parking brake assembly was already in the car before the front sheetmetal drop.
Rocketraider, I was able to remove the all the bolts holding the inner fenderwell and snake that old brake cable out from it's location. It was an ordeal to get it to flex so I could pull it down. Not sure why I didn't replace it when I had the front end off back in 1978. The replacement cable was considerably more flexible and it went it without any trouble. So the cable is in and while in there I sprayed some cosmoline in the body mount boxes on ther firewall. I missed them last time around!
In case someone else has to replace their's, here are some pics of the tight spaces.
Thanks for the help Rocketraider!
I hear you.. I have wanted a lift since I was 15yrs old, working on my back out in the cold winter months!! I will be 71 next week.. too old to lay on my back anymore. But still do until I get the suspension installed on the 442, so I can roll it around!!
Thanks for your help!
