Front brake hose secure clips…loose

This weekend did the front brakes on my ‘70 442 with drums. Routed new hoses to the frame clips from brake lines. Lines do have c-clips on hoses. Once seated in brackets on frame I put on the retainer clip above on bracket and slid into channel on brake lines. The lines are still super loose. Is there something I’m missing here? Thank you!

The issue I have is that the original images show no c-clip on the lower part of the hose. I don’t understand how it’s rattling if it’s seated and that upper clip in the image isn’t holding it tight.

The disc brake and drum brake hoses are different and need different brackets on the frame. You described the hose as being seated in the frame bracket. Just double checking, it does fit into a hole the same shaped as the hose? So the hose is tight in the bracket before you put the clip on it?

Did you have this loose fit prior to changing hoses? Is the problem consistent at both frame brackets? If not, the new ones may not have the correct fitting on the end? Compare the old hose to a new hose .....

I just dropped my car, at the frame the hose is inserted from the underside of the frame bracket with the c-clip oriented like in the image and inserted on top of the bracket, catching the shoulder of the hose fitting. It is a simple connect just like the image shows.

I agree with tnswt, it sounds like you may have the wrong hoses. In case you tossed the old ones already here's a couple pictures to compare it to. The top ones are disc brake hoses. Then the bottom ones are drum brake hoses still on the car. Note the shape of the part that goes into the metal bracket attached to the frame.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the help. Tough part was the car didn’t have brake hoses on prior to new ones(big resto).

You are welcome. Did you purchase your hoses locally, or from one of the well-known repro houses?

The flex brake hose end should ride fettered in the frame bracket with no movement when the clip is inserted.

The hoses should lock into the brackets and the clips just keep them in place.

Thanks again. I got them from OPGI specifically for front drums. Doesn’t look like originals had lower c-clips. Hoses do fit into the bracket, I’m at a loss as to why they move.

If the hose fits tight into the bracket, how about the top clip? It should have a pucker to it that compresses when tapped in place. Could it be crushed and flattened out? Could you post a picture or two so we can see how it looks?

Since I'm the fourth owner of my '68, I can't swear this is factory, but this is what mine looked like at tear-down. Note, the C-Clip goes under the bracket, with the "flexy" clip (with it's back to us) above the bracket.

Has anyone has an issue installing the clips where they are too tight. I put a new hose on today and wrestled with the clip for (2) hours before giving up. Do I have the wrong hose?

I bought from Inline tube.

I think I figured it out. My hose bracket has a rubber cushion installed and it is removing clearance from the clip......

Order some newer style brackets. I wish i noticed this earlier. I think I lost 10 lbs sweating.....
