Drum to Disc conversion
Drum to Disc conversion
I have a 69 Cutlass Convertible, 350 rocket, 400 trans and i'm thinking about converting the drums to disc. i'm also thinking about just adding a power booster to the master cylinder instead. I'm new to doing restorations and looking for recommendations, should i do the conversion or not and is adding the power booster a good idea or just a waste of time and money?
Have you driven the car? The choice of power or manual is one of personal choice, assuming your engine doesn't have a very big cam so vacuum is not an issue. Discs are safer than drum because drums don't dissipate heat as well as discs so they'll fade after repeated uses.
Rios:
I have a 66 cutlass that I did the conversion on, it made a HUGE difference in the car. The manual drum setup was basically a crapshoot in an emergency situation, even though it was in excellent shape w/ new stuff a few years ago. I ordered the kit from OPGI and had NO problems w/ the conversion, it came w/ everything I needed to do the job. The difference was amazing, a major difference in stopping power, money well spent, if you going to keep the car, I would suggest an overhaul on the front suspension at the same time. New BJ's and control arm bushings as well.
Thanks Ron
