Has anyone used this? Too good to be true? I have been looking at other sets for 5-600 bucks. This would save some dough.

You're right...does sound too good to be true, and you what they say...it probably is then! I've seen several decent conversions on ebay for $369.00. I wouldn't chance it just because I know my luck! LOL

Hey guys. Just my two cents. I have worked in the steel business for 20 years. I also live in a city affectionately called Steeltown. The first coversion states 1/4" cold rolled steel. The same type of steel you car body is made from, only thicker. Soft steel. The second doesn't specify steel gauge, but does mention welding. Hopefully, this means hot rolled steel. The same stuff your car frame is made of. Hard steel. If you want to inquire, ask what type of steel it's made from. In my opinion, cold rolled steel is best left on the outside of the car. i just did disk on my 71. i used 72 nova parts...got the whole subframe for 50 buks...so im into it after calipers,bearings,rotors,brake hoses,and master about 250.00...69-74 nova stuff is a direct bolt on...its actually the same spindle as the drum brakes...

 

Huh??? your telling me the drum spindle has the holes for the caliper bracket??? Not thinking so...

I just did a front brake conversion on my 71 cutlass conv. I used inline-tube co. the total package cost $700. It cam with every thing from the brake booster to the pads including new spindles. Although I was happy with everything my brakes just caught on fire yesturday. to make a long story short I found the push rod for the master cylinder to be a hair too long, therfor not allowing fluid back to the resivior. I dont understand why this would happen when you buy all the parts from one suppler in a kit. I WOULD NOT USE INLINE-TUBE AGAIN.

 

How did your brakes catch on fire? Did you talk to them about the pushrod length issue? What did they say?

I was also looking at inline tube as well as Master Power for a disc brake set up.

 

I'd use a scarebird kit over anyone elses, honestly. He doesn't make one for my car, but what he does do is make well-engineered kits that use commonly available parts from the local auto parts store. Think about it, if your brakes get messed up, do you want to wait for someone to ship you parts or just go get em at the auto parts store? The reason he's so inexpensive is that he's only supplying the adapters to mount commonly available stuff instead of everything you'd 'need' to do the conversion, but the availability of parts would seal the deal for me even if it wasn't way cheaper than the other makers of similar products. He also does a good job supporting his products. I've heard nothing but good things about Scarebirds setups.

I've got a 1957 88. I am currently working with Mark, the owner of Scarebird Classic Brakes, to come up with a bracket that will convert the front to disc. Its getting very close to becoming complete and when its done, i'll post some pics of the awesome plate that should allow all stock gm brake parts to bolt right on. I expect this to done by the end of the week.
The major challenge however is a bolt on stock replacement for the bendix treadle can o' crap. Thats next. BTW His plates have welds too.
