crazy brakes

i have a weird brake situation. my car has 4 wheel drums with a power booster, it has good brakes but the pedal is really spongy like theres air in the lines which i bleed after doing new wheel cylinders. i dont understand the loose pedal, i would change the master but like i said it brakes good. am i being paranoid or do i have a problem im overlooking. also when i turn the car off there is a hissing noise coming from the booster. thanks for any help.

You might try bleeding them again since you say it feels spongy.

You also described a loose pedal. Then try to adjust your rear brakes a little tighter. You'll likely get a better pedal feel. Just simply turn the star wheels with the appropiate tool or a screw driver until you get a bit of drag.

This might help you decide or your next step. Which might be a new master cylinder.

4 wheel drums feel way different than modern cars with disc brakes and if you aren't used to driving a car with drums then that might be part of it. Don't forget to bleed the master cylinder first before doing the wheel cylinders.

All drums suck.

This is absolutely true.

Look into disc upgrades. Remember this, your investment has to stop
behind modern cars that can stop MUCH faster then your all drum vehicle can
in an emergency stopping situation.

Do you want to find out the hard way?? Mine had factory disc fronts and
I put Baer rear discs on it with D+S rotors.
