i have a 71 cutlass with discs and drum brakes. having issues with brake pedal traveling about half way before you can feel resistance. car takes time to slow down. can see that the brake booster is wet. i think the booster and master cylinder and brake lines are original. if i need to replace, where should i get the parts and what brand
If the brake booster is wet, it means the master cylinder is leaking or you overfilled it and the fluid ran down. If its leaking it probably leaked into the booster and if it has been leaking for a while, the booster should be replaced. NAPA, ORiley, Rockauto, or any other auto parts place will carry replacements. You might as well inspect all 4 wheels and go through the whole brake system at this point. Post a picture of what your looking at with the master cylinder and check the fluid level..
Agreed, the local auto parts store will be able to get the parts as these are very common items that were used on millions of GM cars for decades so no need to go through a restoration house or specialty outlet.
The master cylinder on my car decided to start leaking just as you described after taking it out of last summer's hibernation. I siphoned a small amount of fluid out of the booster, using the vacuum port and a 1/8" vacuum hose. Installed a reman master cylinder from the local NAPA store and all has been well so far.

What is your goal, a daily driver or an all original restoration? If a DD then follow the advice given, if an all original restoration have your parts rebuilt if they appear original.
Forum members may be interested in your master cylinder core if it is an original and you aren't going to use it. Don't throw it away or turn it in as a core. If it appears original post it here for sale.
Good luck!!!
