At rest, the inside rod/clevis should be adjusted so the pedal is against the upper stop and the pin can be inserted easily.

Since you failed to indicate the year & model of vehicle we can't make predictions based on non information. None-the-less clevis top hole manual brakes bottom hole power brakes.

EDIT: You have the 1971 4-4-2 you asked about wire gauge? OK, top hole manual brakes, bottom hole power brakes. Still, always indicate year & model your thread pertains to many people have more than one vehicle - nothing served by guessing.

Sorry for this, yes 71 442 power brakes, and in bottom hole.
Like oldscutlass mentionned, " the inside rod/clevis should be adjusted so the pedal is against the upper stop" , I only see the stop light switch, still looking for the upper stop..

Thanks guys

To de-mystify my previous post - in which case Eric is correct regarding the mount point of the brake assembly, I was thinking of the clevis pin location on the brake assembly itself (not the bushing mount plate). Hopefully this will clarify.
