Brake bleeding problem

I'm attempting to bleed the brakes on my 1972 Cutlass. I can losened all the bleed bolts except the front left bleed bolt. I think I have tried all the tricks But I'm afraid of round the bolt. Any suggestions. The bolt is surrounded and won't allow use of a socket or normal box end wrench....

Have you soaked it with PB Blaster or a mixture of 50/50 ATF and acetone?

If you stripped it out, remove the wheel cylinder and get the old bleeder out. A new bleeder can be had at your local auto parts store. Reinstall the wheel cylinder and then bleed your brakes.

If the bleeder screw is rusted into the wheel cylinder, chances are there is rust in the cylinder also. A brand new front wheel cylinder is a whopping $6 on RockAuto. Don't even screw with the old one.

As Joe mentioned, wheel cylinders are real cheap. Now all you have to worry about is getting the hose loose. It would be a good idea to replace both front wheel cylinders and both hoses while you are at it. It is cheap insurance.

The Olds service manual recommends a special offset box end wrench for bleeding (J-21472), but especially if you are working on the original components, I agree with the others. It's probably time to change the cylinder (and probably the hose also). They aren't that expensive, and will save you a lot of grief. If you're a tightwad like me and want to try to salvage the cylinder, do it in a vice, but be prepared to find some bore pitting.
