big brakes

I have drums all the way round and with some work and a reserve vacume can I think my drums are working as good as they get. This still isnt up to what Im looking for. Pretty sure Im gonna change the whole system except the pedal. With my new wheels 17'' its opened up alot to fit some big brakes in there. My questions are what would be a good kit or parts for something nice looking in there. Im thinking of drilled and slotted rotors for all four. Does taking drums out of the back kill the parking brake ? Im looking for something mean looking not at all stock and I dont mind paying alittle more for the quality as its a pretty vital system. Any ideas or help / photos would be apreciated. Thanks

touring classics and kore3 make some of the best bang for the buck kits. For a little more $ Wilwood makes some really nice stuff. Baer looks good but I hear a lot about e-brake not holding well.

Make sure what you get is ok with TT2's a lot of big brakes won't clear the spokes.

TT2

I was wondering what you were talking about "TT2's" and I just saw a car with TT2 rims and they look just like mine- So Im asuming you mean the wheels because mine are http://www.aewheel.com/wheels_detail_specs.cfm?id=11
Im wondering if its the same wheel different, center cap. Think I recall eagle alloy being part of american racing. ?? Im not sure of my off set because I got them off a guy who got em for his camero and never used them- he said they had the correct spacing for that and they had no rubbing issues on the cutlass. I guess thats a good point tho- Ill find out the spacing / off set on them. I checked out the sites - do I need to get new hubs ? Im not real onto it with brake/wheel part terms.

the AE wheels you have are a copy of TT2 and will likely run into the same issue. The problem is not the offset it spoke design itself may hit the caliper.

As for hubs on the front all you have to do is have the front hubs cut down. Most of the brake companies offer a service to do that or a local machine shop can do it.

The rear gets a little more tricky. As of a year ago when I was doing my brakes no one offered rear kits combatible with the BOP bolt in axles only for Chevy c-clip axles. I made LS1 fbody rear brakes work but it is not a bolt in deal. Tobin at Kore 3 was working on a BOP kit and it might be out now. Very smart guy worth calling.

and on Ebay there are some economical 4 wheel disk packages.

update

Old thread but finally got round to posting these pics - went with a wilwood setup 11'' with 4 pistons - brakes alot better now - only cant seem to lock em up ? I didnt do the install as I was over messing with them. I adjust the propotioning valve and it seems to have no difference to the drums in the back- guess there next to go- they never seemed to work right-

Eh.....I wouldn't go with those to be honest.
I've looked into most of them, and they are VERY small systems.

Kore3 is Tobin on several forums and he's hardcore and knows his stuff.
He's on the pro-touring sites. I did a C5 vette front kit on my 78 Z28 and it's
a huge difference over the stock front discs I had before. I ordered modified
spindles instead of trying to do it myself.

For the rears, you can do the S10 rear disc conversion which is by far the
best bang for the low buck. IIRC you're looking at under $500 - $400 for the rears.
There's a full list of parts here.

Post #63 gives you a complete breakdown of the parts needed.
You won't need 2 of the same side calipers like Camaro's do though.

Some people will tell you that the 4th gen LS1 Fbodies have a great setup too
but getting a E-brake bracket fabricated is required if you want an E-brake.

This is the kit that's on my new Chevy 12 Bolt I'm installing this week.
