Asking Joe padvano

Joe i just wanted to know if I can be successful switching my treadle vac on my 57 olds to dual master setup and keeping drum brakes because they work very well. I had the treadle vac rebuilt and working fine but just thinking about it

Sure you can, but due to the configuration of the pedal and firewall it isn't as straightforward as on some cars. You'll want either an 11" single diaphram booster or an 8" or 9" dual diaphragm booster to get sufficient assist. Match the master cylinder piston diameter with the diameter of your current M/C and you're good to go.

I don't have any experience with this vendor or kit, and cannot vouch for performance of this particular unit, but this setup on ebay at least gives you an idea of what is required for a 57. Note that the kit in these photos is for disc brakes and includes a disc brake M/C and a combo valve. That's not what you want for a four wheel drum car.

I "think" I may have found the post you're looking for. I didn't perform an exhaustive search for exactly what you want; however, the Username is "Olds Dad" (note the space between the two words). I searched on the term "treadle" and Username "Olds Dad". Good Luck.

I know nothing about Joes suggestion but doesn't that booster look rather small? As far as Old'sDads conversion he has made several revisions since the first attempt be sure to get all of his updates. Looks to be a great system for those of us that don't want to lose the defrosters or decorate the firewall with a non Old's part..... Tedd
