79 Pontiac Brakes

I have a 1972 Cutlass Supreme that has Drum front Brakes and want to convert to disc brakes Has any body tried disc brakes of a 1979 Pontiac trans Am Thanks

This comes up a lot. The F-body spindles are taller, have a different steering arm location (causing some bump steer), and (most importantly) use ball joints with different stud taper. You can swap the upper ball joint easily, but the lower has a larger body diameter and must be machined to fit the A-body control arm. The taller spindles do help slightly with handling, but you'll need offset upper control arm shafts to get the alignment correct. Finally, you still have the bump steer problem.

I'll respond as I always do. If there were an easy swap using later model parts, the repro houses wouldn't charge what they do for the A-body disk brake kits.

Thanks I thought it would have been tried before but i needed to ask OK next question where and what do you guys recommend as a good front disc brake conversion The car has 14 inch rims and if I have to will upgrade to a bigger rims then so be it Thanks again
