75 delta 88 royal brake pedal will not return to "up"
I have a 1975 delta 88 royal , the brake pedal will not return to "up" after pressing down. currently have a lanyard attached to pedal and pull it to release the brakes , which seem to work fine. i just got the car and have not taken the wheels off to look at the hubs/brakes etc. but the wikipedia page claims all 75' delta 88 royals were 4 wheel disc brakes standard. any thoughts?

No 1975 Oldsmobile ever came from the factory with four wheel disc brakes. Your car has 12" rotors on the front, but 11" drums on the back. Of course, that is irrelevant to your problem, since this is apparently an issue with the brake pedal, booster, and/or master cylinder. For starters, there should be a return spring on the brake pedal under the dash. If that's missing or broken, that can cause your problem. A bad or sticking air admittance valve in your power brake booster can prevent pedal return, and a bad master cylinder can cause it. Check for the return spring first.
replaced master cylinder and booster , still have the problem of no pedal return.
can be fixed by drilling a small hole just above brake pedal and installing a 6"x1" spring ,connected to a 1/4 eyebolt tapped into lower dash in an inconspicuous spot.
Also! brake boosters have varying length "valve rods" ; the part in cab that hooks to pedal arm.
you pick boosters out using a "pedal code" which is difficult to find (i have not). the booster shipped to me for "1975 delta 88 royal" had approx 6" rod.
had to cut booster rod down with porta band, drill out 3/8" rod couplings' threads and cut off eyelet from old booster for a final measurement of 4 3/8" from face of booster to eyelet hole dead center. the addition of tapped set screws through the side of the rod coupling holds the assembly together. might also be do-able with some stout 3/8" id hose, as long as it fits inside that rubber boot.
changing the booster is a pia , mainly because the neutral safety switch must be removed.
