66 cutlass brakes conversion

New to the craft, looking for suggestions on the best 4 wheel disc conversion kit. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Looking to redo disc brakes on all for wheels.

When my vista was still a daily driver, I had on a set of 98 camaro disc brakes on all four corners. They have 2 piston front calipers, single piston rear calipers, 12 inch rotors the whole way around, and an integrated drum brake style parking brake. I used the 98 camaro master cylinder on the original 11" booster and a new disc/ disc valve from inline tube. I also used the 98 camaro parking brake cables and brake hoses. You must use the metric fittings and make lines with bubble flared ends rather than inverted flares to use the hoses. The front end uses drum brake spindles and hubs. You can find mounting brakets on ebay and all kinds of how to videos online on these conversions. Those brakes stopped the car almost as well as the 14"/ 6 piston & 13"/ 4 piston wilwood's I have on now witha hydroboost. You will need at least a 16" wheel to clear the camaro brakes.

You will not be able to clear anything larger than a factory style 11” rotor 67-68 (4 piston caliper) or 69-72 (single piston caliper) disc brake set up with 14” wheels. Also, you may have to clearance the front caliper brackets if you buy a reproduction set of 69-72 front disc brakes. I am running 14” wheels on my 72 with factory style disc brakes. The top and bottom edge of the caliper brackets hit the wheels when I put them on, so I had to grind a chamfer into the brackets (original brackets fit the wheels perfectly). Yet another example of reproduction parts being made incorrectly, and it is also likely the reason that most of the factory style kits have a disclaimer saying you must run at least a 15" wheel even though disc brake equipped cars came with 14" wheels from the factory.

Keep in mind that there are TWO kinds of 14" wheels, those that clear disc brake calipers and those that only work with drums. The original wheels on all 1966 Cutlii are the drum-only wheels. Nearly every repro SuperStock wheel will clear STOCK GM calipers and rotors.

In this photo, the disc brake wheel (#1) is on the left, drum-only (#2) on the right. Inboard it to the right for both wheels. Note the difference in the shaping of the center drop portion of the rim as shown by the yellow and green arrows.
