1969 F-85 drums to discs

Hey all,

I want to convert my '69 F-85 from drums to disc as well. I currently have factory 14" wheels, but planning to get 15" in the Spring. 1.) Is it better to wait until I get the 15" wheels before converting? 2.) Does scarebird.com sell a full conversion kit? Is there anything else that I'd need to buy?

Thanks for the advice.

I moved your post because A-body brakes are unrelated to the full size brakes in the original thread. A-body brakes are easy. See this thread for more info:

The factory 10.75" disk brakes came with 14" wheels, HOWEVER there is a caveat. In the first few years of disk brake production, GM built two kinds of 14" wheels, those that only cleared drum brakes and those that had a different backside contour that cleared the factory disks. Whether or not your 14" wheels clear will depend on which ones you have. Note that all SSII/III wheels do clear factory disks. Early SSI wheels do not, but later ones do. Plain steel wheels can go either way.

Thank you. I checked out the links you provided and most no longer work. Might you have any updated ones?

Is it receommnded to convert brakes all the way around? I see some people only convert the front.

Also, I want to make sure my brake conversion works for both the factory 14" wheels as well as for the soon-to-be upgraded 15" wheels.

Thanks. This is all new to me.
