1964 Cutlass 442 4 wheel disc brake swap
I understand some of you would not have done this.
I chose to do this to the fact of very limited support when I live.
So last year I ordered The Right Stuff 4 wheel disc brake kit AFXDC41C for my 1964 Cutlass 442.
It took over 6 months until all parts were finally in to send to me. By that time my car was back in storage for the winter.
Fast Forward to last week.
Got the car to my buddies shop to start this. Well, I’m waiting on steering parts and an axle.
I never changed anything and pretty sure nothing was changed up front since ‘64.
So I Started on the axle that is good (replaced years ago because bearing spun).
Everything is correctly spaced.
But the 15” SS1 wheels hit the caliper.
Anyone have this issue? What did you do?
I emailed the company and will probably call Monday to see what they say.
So far…. Not good…

I’m thinking 5/16 or 3/8 spacer. That’s what I’m reading on other Buick and Pontiac sites. Guys on OCA suggest the same.

I got an answer from Ed at The Right Stuff.
“only advise we have to offer would be to look at wheel spacers to push the wheel outboard. not sure how hard it is hitting, but most spacers start at 1/2" and i would start there first”
Not the best answer. I recognize not every car is the same and the kit spans ‘64-‘72. But to say they have no other advise is not what I expected.
I am currently going through a Raybestos book and can find at least 3 rotors within spec with a little taller hat that would allow me to move the bracket back and still center the rotors to the pads.
I will probably use spacers for now but will try other rotors in the future.

Cant tell where the interference is. But there are two different profiles for wheels. Perhaps you wheels were for drum brake cars. The wheel profile on the left is for disks, the one on the right are for drums only. (thanks to Joe P for this photo)
