The shop where my 442 is being painted took on a major project, this car looked nice when the customer brought it in, but things changed when the car was blasted. What's interesting is that a body shop sold the car to this guy, and did a lot of bragging about how nice the original body was LOL
The new sheet metal is 5 grand, and probably 12.5 to fix everything, the owner didn't want to find another body.

What is the difference in rebodying and replacing every body panel on the car. The firewall and data plate I guess. What a disappointment this would be.

 

The rear tail light holes give a little light on 70 Camero wow can't believe the roof was rotted too

For that kind of money on a 70 Camaro it better be a Yenko not sure what he had in it originally but no way will it be worth the kind do money it will take to fix it.

Someone must have more $$$ than they know what to do with. That car has so much metal missing I'm surprised it doesn't fall apart. Yuup - braced like crazy inside. Unless it's got special value with the VIN I'd have just looked for a donor body. I know Dyna Com makes 67-69 bodies for HT and verts. Probably won't take long before 70 is also available. Wow! That is a ton of work.

There was a hole in the roof backed by newspaper bonded over..every panel was rusted out.

 

Wonder what it will look like when they get all those Chineseum panels put together. I bet they will fit well. Wonder how it will do when it goes to Barrett Jackson.

 

I know some people who had the same problem with a 64 Falcon, they proceeded to repair that body also. Car looks great now but...so much money and time.

Who would do that to a 64 Falcon I thought Ford had put out a bounty years ago to destroy all the remaining examples so there wouldn't be any evidence they had produced such a car

 

12.5 does not include paint, I think my painter is crazy, I'll bet he loses money on this project..

 

I would say he needs to have that carcass dipped now? Maybe it's a motion or a berger camaro ? I also believe their might be USA made sheet metal for it ? I still remember the first time I saw a 70-1/2 z28 I think they had lt1s in them then , it was like whoaaaaaaaaaaa then I saw the trans am. Bigger whoaaaaaaaaa lol

Things aren't always rational. I mean people pay big bucks for a little clear rock out of the ground...

But it goes to show you rust never sleeps maybe all this was happening under paint and obviously in areas you don't see. Probably a vinyl roof car

 

Nothing special about the car. I'm thinking it was a flood car, probably from Katrina that was fixed up to flip, there was not a rust free part on the car. All of the new sheet metal is from Goodmark.

 

Seems there were a lot more victims of Katrina that just people and houses. Did you ever get the story of WHY the owner wanted this particular car redone? I think most of us here are really curious about spending that kind of money on basically a written off car? If the car was all under water - that's a total replacement issue for everything electrical and mechanical too. That's going to be a huge cost factor.

 

It could have been appraised at a high dollar amount, Now the insurance is paying the costs. Who knows I certainly would have put it out of its misery!!

Good catch Eric. Saw that same thing happen on a program called 'Restoration Garage'. Shop up in Ontario Canada called The Guild. Couple brought in a 67?8?9? Camaro vert to be 'restored' properly. Exactly the same thing happened and it cost close around 70k to fix, but they had to rebody it was so bad and unsafe.

 

Too bad there are no pics of it before it was torn down.

Here in MI I have seen second gen Camaros that looked like that after just 15 years without being in a flood or disaster, Mustangs too. This car is forty years old. It has had 25 more years to rust.


Then it's $5K for new metal, $12.5K to install it, and then, what, another $5K for a paint job?

I say to fix that car and get it back to an owner painted and ready for assembly for $22.5K is an awesome deal.

 

I am not sure I'd feel safe in that.

 

How to make a turd smell good for $17500.00, less the paint.

 

Throwing good money after bad money.... I do not think I would ever buy another car that was not completely original without pics of the car before the paint goes on. I got really lucky with my car but after following this site for a while I have seen too many people post pics similar to this.

 

I figure the body in final paint will run close to 30k, the owner has a dream...

I was about to post "well....at least it has a good roof...." a joke I've always made about rusty cars, but even that wasn't accurate!

 

He will. I know a guy who did a 69 Camaro in similar condition to this one and it cost the owner over $60,000. This has been 15+ years ago, too. When body supplies were almost half what they are now.

 

He might, dpending on how much he makes up for it on the paint. That poor owner (no pun intended), I'd only spend that effort on a big port 396 car.

 

Unfortunately that dream is going to be a nightmare.

 

Suddenly my car doesn't seem so bad.
