Showcars fiberglass quality
Showcars fiberglass quality
Hey all, I searched for showcars bodyparts on the forum but didn't find anything relating to the quality of their fiberglass hoods and bumpers. I am going to install fiberglass front and rear bumpers (no cutouts) and a bolt on W-25 hood on my '72 Supreme. Showcars bodyparts is the only place I have found that offers the rear bumper w/ out the cutouts.
Has anyone purchased their products? If so, how was the quality? I don't want to buy cheap parts and spend a fortune at the body shop getting them right.
OR
Does anyone know other manufacturers that offer '72 rear bumpers w/ out cutouts? I have tried DMR, VFN, and Called RRP & WS Racing but haven't heard back.

If you want new repops:
Fusick Automotive, Tamraz, Parts Place, Year One, Original Parts Group, BAP to name a few all deal with what you want.
If you want OEM, pick up a good used OEM on the web and get it re-chromed. The chroming shops can take out any dents or bends in the bumper before plating. If you go this route, be sure to let them know there's no rush: they can plate it with another batch going in. Usually you pay extra for individual jobs. If you get it done as part of another batch, the price may be negotiable.
Right now on ebay, there's a 71/72 OEM NOS bumper (sorry I don't have the link handy) but it's more than a repop. But then again, it's guaranteed to fit.

I just sold two usbodysource fiberglass fenders and kept their bolt on hood. I would have to rate their stuff as excellent although the hood comes with the scoop holes filled in and the moulding on the front needs to be fit and fabricated. I looked and they do make the bumpers but the car I bought just had the complete front end.

Nah, I tried usbodysource. They only have the '70 bumpers. I know showcars fiberglass has the bumpers I'm looking for but they are in canada and I don't really feel like spending my money outside of the country unless they are a really reputable shop with good quality parts. Other than them I haven't found any other place that has 1972 WITHOUT exhaust cutouts.
That what I was thinking but when I called WS racing the owner had to get back to me. He said he had to look at his mold and see if it had cutouts or not...so I'm guessing if its not in the mold it's not doable? Who knows...all I know is this Canadian place has them but no one has used them so I don't know how good they are.
Probably. But you have to understand that almost all the folks on this site are working with mostly metal bumpers, or the newer style plastic bumper covers. Fibreglass bumpers appear to be a aimed at a specialty market which most of us don't deal with. Trust me, if fibreglass bumpers were the vogue, there would be tons of them available for your application and the guys looking for metal ones might be in the minority.
Please understand that a lack of response is NOT aimed at alienating you or making you feel isolated. We just don't have the information you're looking for. I'm certain that if you got 20 emails a day from this thread saying "Don't know where to get them", it might be the same catalyst as not getting a reply.
I did a quick web search and found the following sites that appear to deal with Olds fibreglass bumpers:
http://dickmillerracing.com/store/page21.html
http://www.artfiberglass.com/auto/6880cutlass.html
http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/cutlass.html
http://www.wsracingfiberglass.com/products.htm#Olds
http://www.rocketracingperformance.c...ssis/index.htm
Have you given any of them a try?

I did check all of those suppliers, the only one I saw that had rear bumpers without cutouts was showcars, but I am unsure of their quality and reputation. I would be happy with a plastic bumper...doesn't matter to me but I didn't fine ANY suppliers for plastics.
Showcars can take all their glass parts & shove 'em up their ***.I've had the worst luck with their parts, the worst luck getting the to fit,and their service isn't any better. Their pieces are real crude when you get them, and require a lot more prepwork before painting. They will fit after you use a heat gun & some ratchet tye-downs.
I would stick with Glasstek or VFN.

Here's another link to VNF. One of the guys I know bought a hood from them and is very happy with the product. Don't know anything about their bumpers though. Maybe call them or contact via web page. Anyway, here's a couple more links I found. Hopefully someone else on this site can help with the search.

I'm kind of curious why you want a fibreglass bumper. If they are so hard to get wouldn't it be worth having a stock 70 bumper stripped at a chromers and then painted to match what color you want? I'm not really clear on what you're attempting, so these are just 'what if' comments ok?

507, thanks! That's what I wanted to know...and what I suspected.
Allen, I have a '72...both bumpers are bent and need repair. It is a heck of a lot cheaper to buy $200 fiberglass bumpers than to buy repop bumpers or have these fixed. It will also save a little weight. I am building a streetable drag car so every little bit counts. Thanks for you help in any case!

)Might be an idea to start a thread about your car and project? As you know we love reading about builds and watching their progress. Take care.
