Looks good. Much better than mine. I have put a hold on any work on the 442 until we can get settled at the lake. The wife got a buyout for an early retirement and the house in St. Louis sold so we are in a turmoil here at the lake trying to get settled. Just too much stuff. The garage is full of boxes and some extra furniture so I am toying with the idea of building a workshop, 24 x 24, and moving all of my tools, the compressor, welder, and the car to the workshop. Most likely after the first of the year.
Keep us posted on the progress.

Jay

I'll keep you guys posted.

Rich,
The orig color is single stage.
I am going clear coat ,a shade lighter with a lot more metallic in it.
95% the same orig color.

You guys think I should paint the rims body color..
or leave them black ?
I'm leaning towards painting them.

Lookin great squirell! What a great looking base of a car to start with. So, what brand of paint, color, is it bc/cc or single stage?

Looking good so far, keep the pictures coming! Maybe I will get the chance to see your car in person as well. Think you'll have it done by next May for the Olds show in Merrick?

Erik,
It's not quite the orig color.
As you must know the orig color after 33 yrs fades.
The sides were lighter then the top parts and as you know it was orig paint.
I went with more of a gold color
(reminds me of 67 GTO gold prob the same as the 67 Olds color)
that is very metallic vs my orig lighter "Champagne" which had a greenish tint.
It is pretty close IMO..just a few shades off from orig the top (darker) orig color.
There are different color pearls in the formula too.
Not quite as "Mustard yellow Gold " like your old car..if that makes sense.
I'll get you the code so you can see what I'm talking about.

Darrell,
I hope to have this all done by March the latest...so yes I'll see you at Merrick

A couple of you asked what the color is going to be,
Here is the Dupont formula #607517 (last picture)
I thought there was pearl in it ,there is not
I was thinking of another color I was pondering using.

Started stripping quaters last Sat
Found some small unexpected rust spots.
Ended up cuttting them out and patching.
Painted insides of quaters and back of patches with lots of POR 15
Sorry for the crappy cell phone pix..I forgot the camera.

Progress is looking great. I am getting ready to start my paint prep also.

For you Long Island guys.....does anyone know of a black 68 442 convertible, black top, white interior, 4 speed, w/air? I have been looking for it ever since I sold it in 1975. Sold it when I lived on the Island and worked in Smithtown. It had a spoiler on the trunk but the guy that bought it got rearended the next week. Probably non existent now, but always wondered what happen to it. Had to get another one out her in California.
