1969 442 Conv Cowl Drainage

I am trying to determine where the water goes after draining out of the cowl. Both sides on my car have rusted out areas. The driver side is the better of the two. So I have two pictures attached; bothon the drivers side. The first shows the plate that is at the bottom of the cowl. The second picture shows the right side of the plate inside (towards the door). So you can see I have some metal that has rusted away. Should that be closed off? Does the water drain out the front towards the engine bay? If I don't close off the right side towards the door, then water would come out by the door. Maybe it doesn't matter, but trying to get it right. Any thoughts? Thanks

When the water drops down into the lower part of the cowl it is supposed to go through a one inch hole at the rear of the cavity and into the rocker panel. In '64 Chebby had a slogan "rain washed, air dried rocker panels". Any dirt or leaves that get in there will eventually plug up the hole. Get a light to see what you are doing and a vacuum to remove the build-up.

Yellowstature: Thanks, that is interesting. I can't picture where that hole would be. I will have to investigate further.

I should have mentioned that above. With the kick panel removed, look down inside that big cavity and if it is empty then you can see that large hole at the lower rear. If you can't see that hole then it is full of dirt and debris.

Thanks! You information was a big help!
On the passenger side, I cut the outside plate off to find that the channel that leads to the rocker panel was completely rusted away. I have to rebuild that entire section on passenger side. Not sure about the driver side yet. There may have been debris at one time, but not anymore.
