How to secure hood moldings | fiberglass hood

Looking for advice on how to secure my hood moldings (“hockey sticks”) to the front of my new fiberglass hood I have. Do I drill and tap, or do I use a self taping screw, etc ?? I don’t want to mess up the fiberglass and I also want to get this done before paint

I assume you have a '70 hood????

FIRST - Make sure you have the right length screws....coarse (ie tapping) sheet metal screws in whatever size is used on the '70 chrome hockey stick moldings. I THINK they use #8 thread size. BUT....back to the length as this part IS CRITICAL. Since I don't know how thick the glass is on those hoods at each screw location, you'll have to "figure" it out.

Too long of a screw and you can put "outies" or dimples in the chrome diecast pieces if the screws bottom out (and try and go further) in the mounting holes in the diecast moldings. A VERY COMMON problem.

SECOND - you just need SMOOTH holes DRILLED THROUGH the mounting areas of your fiberglass hood. Large enough so the screws can pass through the holes freely. Nothing to be gained by having a tight fit or threads cut into the hood holes.

I’m sorry I didn’t specify it’s for 72 but thank you for the advice and firming up my assumptions on how to install

That changes everything then....since you will need to THREAD INTO the glass of the hood on those two horizontal lips that the hood/grill eyebrow trim is attached to. Haven't had to deal with the grill trim pieces on an all glass hood. I guess you should try a slightly smaller drilled hole and see how well the screws (coarse/sheet metal threads) go in and stay tight.
