67 Cutlass Supreme 2dr hardtop rear window molding

I am trying to install the 2 bottom pieces of the rear window molding on my 67 CS 2dr hardtop. When I bought the car the 2 top pieces were in place with the bottoms missing. I cannot however, seem to get the bottom pieces to sit without there being a good 1/4"to 1/2" gap between the molding and the bottom of the glass. I'm pretty sure I have the right clips, but it seems that the molding slants downward, but it should be somewhat level, correct? I have tried to put the clips on in every way I could think to try, but can't seem to get it installed. Is it possible that the glass is installed too high? Or am I just plain not doing it right (which is entirely possible)?

Thanks,
Rik

There may be a reason why the moldings were "missing" yes the back glass could be out too far or in too far or perhaps metal work was done in that area. You should post pictures of what your working with...
