VI Cutty

I picked up this used spoiler a while back and am going to install it on my '70 Cutlass S. First question is, is it a reproduction or original? Based on the missing centre bolt I'm assuming it's a repro.


Anyhow, for installation is there supposed to be a gasket between the pedestal and the trunk surface? If so, what sort of material and thickness?

I know nothing about spoilers but on bolt on exterior items like rear view mirror I use black gasket material. It is rather thick and holds up well in the weather..... Just a guess... Tedd

No gasket or rubber seal used on the originals from the factory.

The Assembly Manual indicates/recommends a "wad" of sealer pushed into the top of the trunklid hole and then another "wad" of sealer applied around the holes in the trunklid from the underside before installing the nuts.

3M black strip chalk would be a great sealer to use here (or the off white stuff you can get at the plumbing section of Lowes or HDepot - may be called "plumber's putty").

I just put a Fusick spoiler on my '68. It does have the factory style 3 studs on each side. The center stud screws into the wing & passes through the pedestals. They don't use a gasket. Like 70Post said the 3M black strip caulk works well,that's what I used.
