i knew there were shortcuts taken with this car when i bought it. it is a very low mileage car though. i want to do it right. i plan to keep it. the date on the protecto-plate is the same as my son's birthday. 12/24. i know how i can make it just make it work, i know the absolute correct way to fix it. i am looking for input on what all of my options are. perhaps there is a proper way to fix it that is simpler than grafting. my concern is more on how to make it flush so the windshield doesn't buckle and crack. can it be grafted without pulling the whole dash and firewall wiring?

That is pretty bad/ugly. Welding is the best and only proper method, with that much rot new pieces of metal will need to be fabricated. I dont know if an repro replacement panels are made for this area.

I see a lot of welding in your future. You could try and find the firewall/dash section of a parts car to fix the front. Whan I was restoring my car I cut out that section of my original body and sold it to a guy in Michigan, shipping was terrible but it was worth it to him. This is a picture of the car after I cut it out.

Billy,

Im on the road and cant post pics or anything, but take a look at my thread, i "thought" about doing fiberglass, and patching, but realistically, your only real solution is to buy either a repop or get a piece cut out of a parts car.

And as always, i consider tools to be an investment, so i bought a Mig 180A from lincoln, and now i can weld EVERYTHING.

The cowl piece at the base of the windshield is available as a repro now. Everything else will require hand formed patches. Expect to find much more when you get the vinyl top off.

Agreed Joe,

But i wanted to keep in mind that the Repop panel is only so wide (Max two inches or so it looks to be in the pictures).

I thought i only needed the 2'' to fix mine, but i ended up replacing the whole thing because it was rotten underneath.

I'd rather have more metal at my disposal than less.
