Water drainage off rear window

2 questions about the rear window channel on a 70 hardtop

1. How does the rain water get out of the bottom of the window channel? The shape of the pinchweld looks like water will sit along the bottom of the glass.
2. What keeps water from going down in the 4" long welded joint that connects the quarters to the trunk filler panel?

Crickets. I have the same questions. My paint is bubbling in the lower corner. About the size of a dime. How to fix? I'm sure it is getting worse. Remove rear window, weld it, and repaint?

Not sure what year/model you’re talking about, but GM’s of the 60’s and 70’s often had a piece of stainless molding surround the rear window and water/dirt can get trapped beneath it. Convertibles had a drainage channel below the rear curtain that sent water out through the rear window quarters, but hardtops didn’t.

So the water sits in the corners of hardtops attacking whatever is there and eventually rust forms. My ‘66 starfire had this kind of damage. It was rewelded years ago when the car was painted, but I’m pretty careful these days to soak up what water I can from those rear corners. GM in those days just didn’t have a provision for water to run off from the bottom of the rear window.

Yup - remove the rear window, weld & repaint. While the window is out, that’s good time to put in new rear speakers under the rear deck. I use 6x9’s under mounted in my Starfire. Works well. Also a good time to replace the package tray (rear deck) fabric cover and maybe add some sound deadener.

Cheers
cf

My 67 Cutlass has a drain on each side with 2 rubber tubes that run through the trunk and out under the rear quarters.

Good to know. Was that custom installed? Or factory? I wish my '66 Starfire had 'em.

Every time I wash it, I dry the heck out of it and an hour later I get this little dribble down each side of the trunk from the window corners...

I have a vinyl roof on an 82 Delta 88 , i was wondering the same thing is the water collecting under the vinyl trim at the bottom of the back window ? maybe its rusting under that wide trim !
My other cars for sure collect water at the bottom of the back window so i take a leaf blower and blow the water out after washing the car .

When I do 66-67 builds I braze in brass drain tubes I'm the corners of the rear window and tubing so that it drains out when it rains. All the shops I have ever worked for this is a standard add on for a body's of all makes
