Rear panel issue.
Rear panel issue.
Wonder if somebody with a unmolested 68 cutlass/442 can do me a favour.
The rear panel(the panel with the cutouts for the rear lights) was bent, torn and rusted in the middle section ,around the trunk lock.I did weld it up a while back, but I am not satisfied with my job.It just does not look right.
What I need is the measurment marked X in the attached sketch. This has to be taken in the middle of the trunk.A good picture of this section would be nice too.

Nice if you can do that.
The way mine is now the distance x is 26,5 inches.I suspect it should be
about an inch more.
It is a difficult piece to fabricate, the best would be to replace the center section of this panel.I dont want to replace the whole panel.
To do this I have to find someone with a parts car who is willing to cut out this piece.
Any suggestions where to find this piece?

Mine measured right at 27" for "X" as you show in your sketch. Also, if a straight edge is placed across the seams where the rear quarters meet this rear panel (top of the lip around the weatherstrip), the top of the "V" (also top of the lip around the weatherstrip) is ~1-1/4" below the straight edge (when "eyeballing" a line-of-sight horizontally towards the front of the car - need to "eyeball" this LOS since the straight edge will be forward of the center of the "V"). If my description isn't clear, I can post a picture/diagram of what I'm referring to.

One more thing. The rear edge you measured to,is this straight seen from the side of the car? It is hard to see it from pictures.
With this information it is easier to determine if I can refabricate what I got or start looking for a replacement part.
