Dash rust

This is the boy's car. Just the windshield area is bad. The rest is origional paint. This is the education for him. Learning how to patch. It's all tacked and ready for welding solid.

Looks like a job well done. It's amazing how many of them have this issue. Mine had it too and I had to do the same thing. When I took the windshield out of mine, the windshield roping gasket took a good amount of my cowl area with it. The best I can tell is that the water just sits there in the lower cowl area and does not drain well. After I welded in new metal, I used a product called Rustmort from SEM to convert the surface rust below that area and then finished it off with Eastwood's rust encapsulator primer and paint. So far so good.
