Wink

weld and grind weld and grindLOL

after coating with fiberglass resin and sanding twice, laid a thin layer of bondo to pretty up twice as bondo sands a lot easier than resin!

primer still wet

and finally rust free satin black!

was brown interior before but have been purchasing all black over the years and finally a black dash!with the rust gone!not perfect by any means but turned out great for a driver/weekend strip car!

WOW! Nice work! That looked like a real mess but it came out beautiful. I know they make that piece aftermarket. How much of a price difference was it by using a diner?

I have the same to do on my 70 but the cowl panel is going to.

The part that is under the glass is seamed to the cowl. Is there any other seams, supports, crap thoughts I need to know about to pull this off.

also the sides... got any better pics?

I have to cut it out od a four door but it all here.

as far as paint used a rattlecan, rust oleium, plastic, satin black.
tried a few different paints on other pieces and that seemed like the one that would hold up best long term!was really tough to sand down etc.
thanks for looking and replying.
probably have other pics if anyone needs more info.
I did cut on inside of roof pillars so I did not get into that area!

getting there!

I thought the dash pad mounting nuts were a real bear to remove!
but going back together with fresh paint and trying not to scratch really $ucked! I did manage a double scratch just below the heater controll and radio on the lower dash! doing everything by myself so was going to happen sooner or later!at least I was the one that put first scratch!
made a little more progress but no pics yet!

this is a common problem on these cars and I recently finished repairing this area on my project car .time consuming ? yes very much to do it right. I made my own patch panels ,plural, upper dash and under that is the upper cowl ,had to repair\weld both pieces ,unfortunately didn't take pics so I can't show you how it was done ,only the finished results which you would be hard pressed to see the repair ,as it should be, but........... I can tell you that you are not done as the problem that caused the area to rust in the first place needs to be addressed which is no paint or seam sealer under this area and since you just welded on it, it will need corrosion protection.water drains into the upper cowl and that seam underneath is exposed to moisture constantly and since its not accessible to be able to paint completely I use a sponge[after sanding] and blot paint on the underside of the upper cowl and then seam seal using my fingers or a small stiff brush or both and checking my work [to make sure it is sealed] with a mirror.then I know all that work performed will last . stick your hand under there and feel .feel any rust? the open seam? here in the rust belt it would just rust out again, sooner than you think, since it will already have rust under there and you heated it up welding on it. both sides of a repair need to be finished!! today's lesson do it right the first time!!

while dash pad was removed,I caulked on inside using seam sealer and used a wet finger to smooth, and on front area while screens were still off attached a 1/4"rubber hose and fully caulked the entire seam, then used a 5/8" heater hose and used a paint gun blowing high pressure approx. 35 psi thru hose to coat repair forward of windshield! If I wanted to do it right your saying I need to wipe paint in with a sponge? how do I sponge where my fingers with a sponge don't reach?the air with paint in it seemed to get in all cracks and crevices! even with mirror could not find any untreated metal.plenty of runs inside cowl in wiper linkage area but runs can be sanded out.please school me how to seal properly so I don't need another lesson!
