Bumper

Has anyone ever had a bent bumper put back into shape? Do most of the plating shops handle this or do you need to go to a Frame straightening facility? Do you have problems with Fitting after it comes back? Are they any specific questions to ask when trying to find a reputable shop to do this work.

I am in the KC are if anyone has any suggestions.

The rechroming places here will straighten a bumper to an extent.

x2. Most replating firms can do a decent straightening job if the bumper isn't too bad. If you are worried, ask to see it before plating, and trial install it.

A friend of mine had his '70 front bumper straightened, but didn't test fit it before chroming. It was high in the center, and he busted part of the grille and/ or the "tooth" on the hood when closing it. Some guys like original parts, I'm going to go repro on my front bumper and save some $$$. You can buy new bumpers for the price most people want to rechrome yours. If it is bad then that's what I would do. If it is a small bend then the rechroming shop will do it.

The one thing I can tell you is it takes heat and a big hammer to straighten a bumper.

I've heard the repro's are thinner metal and not as rigid. Is there any truth in that.

I have front and rear repros. They are not as ridgid as original (you can not beat american made steel) , nor as straight , if I sight down the side of mine I can see alot of waves and they scratch pretty easy.
The less rigidity thing is not all bad though if you need to give it tweak here and there for a better fit.
I am guessing that the chrome would not hold up well if it was driven in the acid rain and snow. But I wont be doing that !!!!
