Hello! I am planning on painting my 63 in the next couple of weeks and would like to remove the Oldsmobile letters from the front of the hood.
Does anyone have any advice as to the best way to go about doing this as I don't want to damage them in the process.

Look at the underside of the hood where the letters are .
You will see that there small nuts that hold the letters to the hood .
Remove the nuts with a socket . (hold on to the letter)
Then just pluck them off the hood .
The letters on the trunk are also fastened in a similar way .

 

Those small nuts are available from Fastenal by the box. Wish you were closer you could have as many as you need, I have many left over....
