'70 Post to '72 Coupe?

I currently have a '72 Supreme notchback in driveable condition. The rear quarters, though, are 90% bad patch and bondo, and the trunk floor makes Swiss cheese seem hermetically sealed.

I potentially have a line on a '70 F85, a post car. The quarters, from the pictures, are in pretty good shape, with some rust but repairable. (That is, without swapping the entire quarter.) Trunk floor is an unknown, guy's trying to get the lid open to get some pics.

The icing on the cake, for me, is it's a fastback body, and I'd like to have that to make the car a little more like a proper 442 homage.

The nose of the '70, though, has some heavy damage. Bumper is badly bent, missing half the grille, passenger fender taco'ed, heavy dent in the leading edge of the hood, and I think radiator support damage.

What's the chances I can "mix and match"? '72 sheetmetal from the firewall forward, '72 coupe doors and quarter windows, '70 body shell, etc? Would such a thing be a "bolt on", or is there some fab involved?

Thanks for your time.

Pretty much nothing other than the rear bumper will transfer to the 70 post body from the firewall back. Doors, side & rear glass, trunk lid, drip rail moldings are all different between a supreme (notch back) and a post car. If the post car has a good title, you could take the front clip from your 72 and put it on the 70 post body. you can use your 72 rear bumper too, and make the car look like a 72. Depending how hard the hit was, the post car may have front frame damage, but your 72 frame would fit under the post body. If the post car does not have a title, you really can't use it to fix your supreme. It's one thing to bolt 72 parts on a 70, but it is quite another to title a 70 post as a 72 supreme.

Yep, that was kind of the idea. The '70 supposedly has a good title, and since the title of course follows the frame and firewall tag, I'd just build it as a '70. Since the swap would basically be little more than front sheetmetal, I wouldn't even have to get a 'reconstructed' title or anything. (Though I would if I put the '72 frame under the '70 body.)

Yeah, the potential for frame damage is a worry, and I'll have a chance to give it a closer inspection hopefully later this week.

Is it even possible to convert a post car to a coupe? That's admittedly not a high priority, but if it doesn't take a huge amount of fabrication and modification, I'd probably be interested in trying.

How different are the doors between a notchback and a fastback? I've been trying to compare pics online, but I'm not really seeing a significant difference.

The doors between the Supreme (notchback) and a S hardtop are the same. But the post car is way different. Doors, side glass, roof are all different. As Loaded68W34 said, the nose will swap over and the rear bumper. But most if not all the sheet metal between the nose and rear bumper is different.

The general idea was to throw parts from my driver '72 at the '70 carcass, especially if the doors and quarter windows could be fitted, even with a little surgery.

Turns out the '70 is more complete than I was led to believe. I was given to understand it was basically a shell, but it does, in fact, have a drivetrain. Unknown condition, of course, and missing a bunch (carb, alt, rad, exhaust, etc.) but it's starting to look more like I could have two cars rather than just one.
