70-72 Quarter skins?

70-72 Quarter skins?
My body guy wants me to get quarter skins so he can cut off the wheel opening for a patch panel. What is my best option here? He did not want to try to patch in front fender lips. He said it is not going to be right doing it this way. All all skins the same? I thought there were a couple companies making them? Does anyone know if the wheel lip is the same between the brands? If so i will go with the lowest cost because i don't need much of it.
Any experience/opinions here?

I got mine from the parts place I think at the time the where the cheapest. They had the standard made in taiwan black e coat. Hope that helps. I also think before you buy them your body should atleast mock them in place and see how bad the diffrence is but then it becomes a thing of essentially you paying him to find out it won't work and wasting money you could have bought the 1/4's with. Hard choice to make. Unless you take a fender cut the area and put it against another cutlass on the 1/4 to see if its close or not .

Hate to see you buy quarter panels just to cut patches out of them. I like copper's idea, could you cut pieces out of front fenders to use as patches? You couldn't do a long piece as the wheelwell opening has a different curve. But small pieces maybe? If you don't have fenders with rot at the bottom heel but good wheelwell openings it shouldn't be hard to find some for cheap.

I took some to him. He said it would work but he would have more time in it that way and still have many splices and welds. He said it would be the same money in the end if we get the quarter but this way it would be welded in as a single part.

I have seen that concept tried before.Use the LH front fender for the RH rear, and the RH front for the LH rear. Close, but not the same, and not worth the hassle.
I would rather find a rust-free 4-door donor body, and cut what you need,or use sections from a repop 1/4. If you use a repop 1/4,you will need to trim the flange underneath or inside the wheel lip, where the molding goes. This is too wide, and looks hideous when left alone, sticking inboard past the molding.
You might try calling Desert Valley for the sections that you need, and they would be shipable in the smaller sections.

Thanks, I plan to get a set of repops. My body guys dad did my Rallye 350 and he did a good job of cutting the excess off. I think this one will turn out even better than it did.
