68-69 mirrors

Wondering if anyone could take the time to measure the length and width of the base of the 68-69 Cutlass/442 chrome mirror where it mounts on the door and how far back from the leading edge of the door it is. Someone installed a pair of cheapie aftermarket mirrors and I'm afraid the holes are gonna be outside the parameters of the stock mirror

Here's some pictures of the 1968-69 mirror base and location mounted on a car.

But when your looking for factory style mirror be careful you get the 68-69 and not the 70-72 mirrors. At a glance they look the same, but compared together the 68-69 are narrower due to the shape of the door. Here's some pictures of the two side by side. These are the non-remote clamshell mirrors, but the remote ones also have different width bases.

Let me know if you have any additional questions or need to see any other views. John

Thanks so much, that affirms what I thought. The holes that were drilled for the aftermarket mirrors are about 5 inches apart, so I won't be able to use the factory stuff... GRRR!

The car doesn't need paint so I have to deal with what I have to work with.

Thanks again!

Are the mirrors shown in this post standard for a 68/69? I have one driver mirror on my 442 that is semi rectangular and not as nice as these oval ones. Are they a direct replacement or some type of after market mirror? Does anyone have a source for these? Thx.

The clamshell mirrors were the only factory non-remote mirrors in 68-69. The remote mirror is only for the drivers side and there is no pass. side that matches it. They make reproductions of the non-remote style, I think Fusick carries it but am not sure. John

Yep! Fusick catalog for the Cutlass/442 page 21, they have both sides, $64.50 each in the catalog I downloaded a year or two ago.
