So having a hard time lining up my front driver fender. anyone the the door to fender gaps i was going for About a paint stick across the board but the very top is prob about a 9/16 wrench thick (5/16 gap) any one know the rough thickness it should be or is that acceptable everything else is in line I can even get the passenger side to suck up or should I just match the passenger to the driver side. lol it just looks off to me and driving me. Nuts and any help would. Be appreciated ty all

 

You either have worn out core support bushings or you have to install some body shims there to get the top door gap correct.

 

hmm wouldn't happen to know the specs on those would yah there brand new they were about 3/4 of a inch thick and already have about half inch of shims under them didn't know if they sold me the wrong ones and also that's with the clip not hooked up that's as far as I can muscle them on because with the clip hooked up it was about a 3/4 gap so I figured I start there and work my way to the clip ty again for the

Both the Chassis Service Manual and the PIM have this diagram.

 

 

I tried to install 1971-72 GMPD Cutlass fenders (the ones with the crumple zone along the top inner flange).

I couldn't get them to fit up. When an experienced painter worked on the car, he cut, repositioned, and rewelded a fender bracket to allow proper fitment.

Later I read that the GMPD fenders were available for so many years because an entire production-line batch was made wrong. They put them in the parts channel instead of trying to install them.

Not sure if that fits your facts here, but I thought that bit of information may possibly help you.

 

Seems like every 442 or Cutlass I've ever had, had that same big gap in that area...
