Welding help

I am no welding pro for sure
I have been putting patch panels on my fenders and was wondering if someone can help me out with the beads I`m getting....

Miller mig welder I`m getting good penetration with 16 V but I can`t seem to find a good speed for my wire... I am having to run it at about 275 but I`m getting heavy welds no matter how fast I tack....

if I slow it down in the 250 range I don`t get good penetration
I have gas not flux core

after grinding and sanding it`s a good full weld but just takes alot of work to grind the material down

What size wire are you using? You should use .023 for panels. You need to lake a piece of metal the same thickness and practice. Weld pieces together..lots of them. Play with the speed and heat. Are you welding long beads across the panel? I usually try to keep them short and move around to help prevent warpage.

I have mainly been doing tack welds moving around perimeter at 1 inch intervals
.23 wire is what I have been using.... guess I just need alot more practice

Thanks for the help

spent a couple hours at the shop this afternoon.... got my passenger door done and my passenger fender
The fender had a rough first weld so it needed some touch up
Fender still needs the lower brace replaced but left it intact for structure while I did the dogleg going to get a chevelle patch for this and will post the results when done

Forgot to get before pics of the door but the whole bottom corner was real rough so cut the whole thing out

heres the pics
