Trunk Adjustment after new paint

Just installed new soffseal trunk gasket...certain of correct orientation however, still having some difficulty in getting the trunk to seal at bottom end (end closest to bumper). Still about 1/2 inch to go before alignment with body edge etc.

Before I start in and stress over not dinging my fresh paint, I thought I'd ask the pros on correct techniques to consider. Is use of thin shims under hinge and trunk common place.....do the trunk rods have any impact on trunk height...acceptable height difference between trunk and body? My current assumption is that the trunck and body should be even with one another all the way down top to bottom.

Appreciate any input.

Russ

Dang......my apologies as I forgot to mention just what the heck I am working on! I'm in the final stages of a ground up restoration of a 68 442. Thanks again for any pearl drops of wisdom.

If you can get the trunk lid to latch, close it and let it sit for a week or two and see how everything fits. It's common for new weatherstripping to raise a deck lid a little and after it sits with the weatherstripping compressed for a few days everything should be fine.
