Steering column firewall seal - replacement question
Car is a 67 Cutlass Supreme convertible. It's got a column shifter. I will replace the seal when this goes back in. I am thinking something would need to be taken apart if the new seal was 1 piece like the old one appears to be. The new seal is in 2 parts. The larger outer part goes on fine over where the shift rod connects. I'm not sure what to do with the inner piece. I am thinking I'll cut it and slip it over. Any suggestions or thoughts? I think I got this seal from The Parts Place. See pics below. Thanks.

Re:
After looking at some pictures I took of the engine compartment earlier, I think I do want to glue in that inner piece. In the below pic the foam seal covers the entire area on the firewall rule side where the steering column attaches. If I just used the outer part that would look at lot more different.
I'm not going for showcase, but it's a small step now while it's all apart.
