Puzzling differences on 2 68's

Hello all, I am presently doing the body on a friends 1968 442 convertible, unfortunatly somebody had already started the job and was making a mess now I have to fix it. The question I need to ask is about the door jamb, the pass. side one on this car had been cut too far bofore the other person tried to put a 1/4 panel on so insted of trying to build something the owner and I decided to cut the jamb/striker area from another car that was for parts, once we started looking at the jamb area on the donor car it seemed different than the car I am working on, they are both 68 convertibles , one is a 442 and one is a cutlass but would the sheet metal in the door jamb be different? The cutlass had recessed areas as well as on the final curve it had flat spots, these were on both sides of the cutlass, now on the 442 they are not there, why is this?Once I take the pics off my phone I will post them.
Can anyone post a picture of a door jamb from a 442 for me, looking at the striker?
Thank you

Here are the 2 pieces in question, the green one is from the Cutlass, the bare one is from the 442

The door jamb in my Lansing '68 4-4-2 convertible looks like your first picture (attachment 57321), with the indent. I don't know for sure, but I can't imagine there would be a difference between the 4-4-2 and the Cutlass convertibles in that area.

The second pic (bare) is on a Lansing car as well, what I did notice is that there is a gold line just off the one radius that appears to be a previous braze weld, looks like maybe this 1/4 panel was changed at one point, that would possibly explain why the flat spot is not on the radius, but then the other side doesnt have one either. When we removed the green one there was a 69 hard top next to it and it only had the flat spot on the drivers side, there has to be an explanation of some sort!

My '68 has the flat spot on both sides, as does my '69 4-4-2 convertible.

Just for some more info... My 1968 2 door Canadian built hardtop has the flat spot on both sides. I did not know I had them on either side until this thread.

Wow, some interesting differences, maybe the jamb area is used for many different cars and they change along the line.

It could be an 'early and late' thing where Muskrat's Cutlass is an October car and my 442 is a March car. So check the vin numbers and see whats going on.

My Lansing built '68 442 convertible's door jambs look exactly like your original door jambs, no flat spots or indents. The build date of my car is the second week of October.

FYI my Canadian Cutlass hardtop that has the flat spots on both sides was built in the last week of June 1968.

What and where are the two indents? or am I mis-reading it.

arodenhiser, look at the first pic, the finger on the right is pointing to the indented areas, the second pic shows that there is nothing there, just smooth

Sorry, I was being dumb. I do not have the indents on either side. I have flat spots on both. I wonder if your one side was quartered with a hardtop donor? Does anyone have a Chevelle/Skylark/LeMans to check for the flat spot. Could a door jamb from another A-body be close enough for a door jamb area splice? Obviously the outside quarter skin would be completely different.

Adam

EDIT -

Here is the jamb from a high $$ '68 H/O restore. Has flat spot but no indents. Same as mine.

I love a mystery.

Both my '68 4-4-2 convertible (Lansing built first week of April 1968) and my '69 4-4-2 convertible (Fremont built third week of May 1969) have the indents on both sides.

My '68 built end of April '68 has flat-ish spots on the outer corner & the 2 indents like the first pic... on both sides.
