Hey all for years i have installed my fender 442 numbers with two sided tape after a paint job.
what has been the easest way to install them without cheating?
The wheel well or unbolt lower fender?
I have a set of NOS emblems i want to install on my car and i do not want to remove the studs to do it.
plus i have to remove the old ones.
My best guess would be lower fender?
Had a 71 442 that I had to get repainted due to a ticked off former g/f with a key in her hand. Don't ask...
After the car was finished by the painter's, the old emblems were still on it. WTF? Luckily, the new ones and old parts that I had them replace were still in the boxes in the trunk and back seat when I got the car back. I asked why they didn't replace the emblems? "Kid we hired as an assistant put the old ones back on by mistake and we didn't catch it." Emblems still looked fair, but started having pits in them. So I decided I'd replace them myself to keep that kid away from my car. Trunk was easy, pop them out, pop in new ones. Fenders? Not so easy.
I loosened the lower fender and the inner fender liner to try and gain access. Couldn't see them, so did it by feel with a box end wrench. Tried a small socket wrench, but I found it more stable to do it with a box end. I also loosened and padded around the rear of the fender too. It was still a huge PITA, and that was when I was 19 years old and full of energy and much thinner. Probably could have done it differently, but eventually it worked out.
If you do it like I did, make sure to note where every shim goes before and during disassembly.

Curious as well to know how others have done it.
Thx, yeah i have never actuallybeen able to do it any other way then two sided tape.
my lower Fenders don't match up well at all they added metal back in the mid 90.s when the paint was done.
And the shape to the door and rocker are off, i already moved the Fender in once needs alittle more work aligning anyway will see.
