I purchased the inner braces that are for high horsepower cars, the braces are the ones that go inside the fender, along the cowl. Fenders are already on the car, the car's painted, and debating whether or not to install them.

Anyone have any experience with these braces? Are they worth the trouble to install? They prevent fender/cowl flex?

For what its worth, I have a convertible and I put them on anyway though the factory for some strange reason did not install those on the convertibles. Not sure how much it helps but it certainly isn't hurting.

 

Gotta ask, cause I don't know. Your car has a 455? The braces were only put into the 455 cars. Probably for the reasons you stated. I'd do it if it was my car. If you need the extra stiffening and don't do it, any damage or buckling afterwards you'll just kick yourself...

 

I have a set for my convert project! With the inner-fenders removed from the car they are fairly easy to install

 

So they can be installed without removing the fneder than? Like just with the inner removed? That's great info! Let me know if that is the fact, k?

With the inner fender out they are pretty ez to bolt in. The stud comes thru the fender in the hole in front of the hood hinge. The lower end bolts to the pocket for the body mount.

 

Yes, with the inner fenders out, they are an easy install. I have them on mine.

So the general concensus is that they help, not sure how much, and are an easy install with the inner fenderwell out. Yeah, I think I'll go through the excersize and install them....

Did 66 convertibles have these? If so does anyone have a picture of it?

 

Fairly certain only 68-72 had them, though could be wrong.
