"Body caulk" for tail light assembly?

As soon as I have time one of the things I'll be working on in the near future will be tail light replacement, a filament on one is burnt out so half of one tail light doesn't light up with the headlights on. I haven't been able to find replacement gaskets for it so the manual says to use "body caulk" if a gasket isn't available. What are they referring to?

X2 on 3M Strip Caulk. Wear gloves, like anti-seize it gets all over stuff and isn't overly easy to remove but it does the job well.

Sounds like that is the most newbie friendly approach, I'll have to get some.

I've never had to wear gloves with 3M strip calk. It comes in a box of strips and is a bit harder than play doe.

I used the 3M body caulk strip to install a molding on one of my cars, and the next day, I noticed that it wasn't installed correctly. That caulk held on so tightly it took a carpenter's cat's paw to pry it loose. I damaged the molding while removing it. I threw the 3M product in the garbage, which will never be used again. It is not like the original caulk that GM used. Today, the closest product to the original GM product is SEM seam sealer. It is more expensive but worth using the best product available.

Buy gasket material and make a new gasket. That caulk can be a mess later if you change a bulb.
