68 Cutlass Shell on a 69 body
Guys
Looking for advise. I am currently working on a 69 cutlass S restro. My 69 shell has a ton of rot in typical places plus alot of holes in the roof. The work at first looked tempting to go through and replace the metal but after looking around i can find shells in pretty good shape. So i am looking for any thoughts to if a 68 shell would sit and match up to my 69 front clip? Any challanges with like the front and rear glass? Most of my interior parts except for the dash and seats were dry rotted and no good.
Has anyone pulled this type of a stunt before. I know there are minor visual differences between the two years body wise but just curous if that is it.
I did find a 68 shell a week ago when i was in pheonix and let me tell ya the solid shell looks very tempting from a work perspective.

I'm thinking both cars are hardtops as that's more common than post cars, is this what you have? The 1968 doors have a wing window and the 1969 don't. Also the door lock location is different between the two so the door panels won't swap over. But if you keep the 1968 door panels, just swap the nose from the 1969 I think you'd be fine. You may be able to put 1969 doors on the '68, I'm not sure about that. John

Yes, the 68 and 69 body shells are the same except for the taillight area of the rear fenders. As noted, door weatherstrip on the 69 Holiday Coupes is different from on the 68 due to the vent windows, or lack thereof.

By the way, you do know that repro roof panels are available, don't you?

Another benefit of having parts in common with a Chevelle.

68 shell to replace 69
Just answering back. The 69 cutlass is a Cutlass S. For the cheese like roof. That part i can see easily fixable, but i have major issues around the rear window area. So much i think it would be tough to i am missing over half of the rail where the glass sits in. Also the rear window corners out i am missing inches. The car had a top on it and was well hidden. There is the typical lower front window rust as well. Lastly the rear quarters would need to be redone as well so this leads me to the purchase of a new shell. I attached a picture of my mess.
I was aware of the different door glass where the 68 has wings. I would assume though my 69 doors would work. Please confirm.
Next i am concerned about the door lock location is different between the two so the door panels. Could i use my 69 doors then? I would hate to buy the shell and then have to find 68 doors. What is the trick.
