Early 400 and 425 question

Hey guys,
Can anyone confirm for me if the early 400 and the 425 used the same harmonic balancer? I understand the crank, rods and flexplate or flywheel interchange, so it seems to me the balancer should too. But I'm not positive and am hoping someone can help me with this. John

Yes, same balancer. As you know, only the cylinder bore (and pistons) differ. In fact, I hear quite a few early 400s have been bored out (by 0.125") to make a 425.

Balancer

Thanks! I dismantled a 1966 Toro engine and sold most of the pieces on ebay this afternoon. The bidding on the balancer went higher than I expected so I'd begun to wonder if I had listed it wrong as fitting both the 425 and 400. John

Geez, and I have several 400/425 balancers laying around. What are they worth these days?

425 balancer

The balancer is the same on the early 400 and 425.I have an E block 400 that is bored .125. I am curious what the balancer went for?

Harmonic Balancer

Hey guys
I didn't want to post the acutal amount, but since you asked I will. The winning bidder paid $106, there is a request for a second chance offer at $104, then a business name "damper-doc" who asked for a second chance offer at $31. So.... the going rate is probably closer to the $30 mark since he rebuilds balancers and that's what he was willing to pay for a core. I'm guessing the two other guys both needed one to complete an engine, and when I checked completed auctions there hasn't been one of these offered for a while. I've got a couple more too, but if someone else wants to post one on ebay I'll wait at least a month before I put another one up.

I've sold a lot more items on ebay than through this and a couple other Oldsmobile web sites, more coverage I guess. In a weeks time I had 99 hits on this auction and four different guys bidding on it. Cutlass/442 parts will often have a couple hundrend or more people view the auctions. I try to post the auctions on Sunday evening around 6:00 PM West Coast time. My theory is that Sunday evening has more people relaxing and playing on the computer than other evenings in the week. I also put lots of photos on so potential bidders can evaluate the condition themselves. There have been times that I gave someone a really good deal, then other times I got more than I expected. Overall I'm happy with the average. John

Just be aware that although you're seeing a couple of hundred views, some of them are the same person checking in more than once. Even if the real number if independent views is a hundred, it's still a pretty large potential number of buyers.

iirc, ebay counts viewers by unique ip address.

iirc, the '65-'67 330's used this same balancer(the ones with balancers-not simple hubs).
