Headers for a 1966 Olds Delta 88 Convertible 425
Headers for a 1966 Olds Delta 88 Convertible 425
Hello all,
I'm doing some engine work, specifically changing the intake and carb to a 4bbl setup (stock manifold). I've also got the heads off for repair and thought this would be a good time to look at options for headers and dual exhaust.
If anyone has any guidance or information in this area it would be welcomed and greatly appreciated.
Thanks, JK

Headers aren't really an option on those ol' gals due to the fact that the steering linkages ride behind the engine cradle.
most people just block off one of the 2 passenger side outlets. I just crimped one of the pipes and welded it shut, and ran the dual exhaust from the 2 leftover ports.

I've never tried it, but I wonder if the Hooker headers for Olds-powered 73-74 Omegas could be made to work. The first gen Omega is also rear-steer.
I put Sanderson shorty headers on a '67 Delmont 88 with a 455. It was a pain in the rear-a lot of welding and moving the engine and steering box around slightly. The header outlets are 3" and I had to weld a 2-1/2" pipe to one side (don't remember if it was front or rear but it's obvious when you do it.
It can be done but it is a lot of work.
