1971 455" Block

Hi all. I'm trying to find a Block (1971 455") for motor mount mock-up purposes. What other years match this configuration and does anyone know of one in the No. County, San Diego, Cal. area? And what should I pay for one in a wrecking yard? many thanks, Charly9g. wfg4u@aol.com.

You can use any Olds 330,350,400,425,455 or 403 for the motor mount mock-up.The dimensions of the bottoms of the blocks are identical. The bosses for the motor mounts are all in the same location.

As noted, ANY 1964-1990 Olds motor (from the 260 through the 455) has the motor mount bosses in the same position relative to the crank centerline. The only difference will be the lower deck height on the SBO motors if you have a valve cover clearance issue in whatever you're swapping into. If you are stuck with an SBO as a mockup motor, you could jack the valve covers up an inch or so with spacers to mimic a BBO. Of course, then the exhaust ports would be in the wrong place, so it might make more sense to put 1" thick plywood spacers between the heads and the block in that case. Again, it depends on what this is going into and what clearances you care about.
