I'm about to button up the bottom end on my rebuilt 455 and looking to add a windage tray. I have a Canton Racing oil pan and Melling HV oil pump. I was looking at the DMR and the Milodon, anyone have a preference between the two? The price is basically the same, so I'm asking about fit or performance I guess.

 

I use the Milodon.

 

I was leaning that way, just see what other options were out there. The Olds market is so limited.

 

Csouth I have used the milidon and the Mondello and I like both but the Milidon was a better fit. I had to bend the Mondello a little, but both worked well. Its worth the effort and money. makes a real difference especially if your spinning over 7000rpm.

 

My milidon had to be tweaked on my 455 with eagle "H" rods to fit correctly

 

I don't think mine will be spinning that high...lol I'm going to make the investment either way though.

My rods are stock, so I'm wondering if fit will still be effected?

 

Actually I'm wondering if they are worth it. I have used the Mondildo and Milodon. The Milodon has better cutouts to put the oil back down in the sump as it's slung around. But every time the pan is taken off, the welds are broke on the tray and it's just kinda floating around down there held on by maybe one weld. I've been lucky a rod hasn't caught it.

 

YIKES! I had one weld on my Milidon come undone and so I tig welded all of them myself and I have bought 3 of them over the centuries and never had another one come undone, Mondello's is always a tight fit and the first time I used one back in the 70s my crankshaft made the neccesary room. So I learned to double check the clearances and bend and grind and sand and all that fun stuff. But I know they help and so do the baffles.

 

I had to do the same with my Mondello tray with cut washers to space it out and notch for dipstick room.
During my freshen up this last winter I left it out and havent noticed a difference. Not turning 7000 rpm though.

 

If your on a budget, get all the stuff from a toro engine, its not a good as the milidon setup, but its something!
