Oil dipstick tube replacement
Hi guys and gals,
I've been busy and I'm not on the last100 yards with Lorayne and it's drive time! The shop never got around to installing the dipstick tube. Needless to say this forum has been a great help and I think I've got a solid handle on how to do it. However, I'm not 100% sure on the location and how deep to push the tube.
From what I gather there is a hole on the driver side head just above the exhaust manifold that looks to be about right but it's kinda oval shaped.
If anyone can describe the location for me it would be a big help. Also how far down does the tube go? Should it just stop at the bulge?

Not in the head - in the block, below or between the manifold.
And, yes, to the bulge!
A deepsocket, on top of the bulge, with an extension will help, as long as the tube is round, clean, and lubricated - I use wheel bearing grease!

Right on, I was going to use the freezing trick but lube is always an option. :-)

There is a gap where the exhaust manifold is spaced from the head. The dipstick tube goes through there, and into a hole in a machined boss on the block just above the oil pan rail. With a new tube, I have generally found it easy to get the first bulge into the block hole, but the tube would bend before getting the second one in. I just put a bolt into the end of the tube and lightly tap it in as far as it will go more or less easily.

From underneath, use and open end wrench that will fit over the tube, put it on top of the bulge, and tap it in. I assume the old one didn't break off in the hole. If it did, get a self starting bolt that you can force into the old one then tap under the head with a chisel. It'll come right out.
