Replace rpm air gap?
Replace rpm air gap?
I currently have a 461 in my 64 F85. Its a seventy three smog motor that was rebuilt with stock pistons, probably around 8:1 comp. It’s got a small cam 212 duration, 447 lift on a 110 lsa. 750 vac sec Holley on an rpm air gap, and headers. 391 posi turbo 400. Pretty strong low end torque. Would it be worth changing out the rpm air gap for a performer intake? It’s just a cruise nite street bomb for me, all about bottom end. I really enjoy this site. Thanks to all.
I personally wouldn’t mess with it. In my experience, it’s almost impossible to make a big debt in the low end torque curve of a big olds engine.
The torque “curve” is more like a torque “plain”. I seriously doubt you will notice much of a difference.

Because of lack of clearance, the person that I bought the car from cut a hole in a perfectly good hood and installed scoop that resembled a huge pizza box! I have since replaced it with a small scoop. I had the same thoughts about replacing the rpm intake, just thought I would run it past some of you more experienced guys to see if it might be worth the effort to replace it. Thanks.
I imagine someone on here would trade you a Performer straight across for that RPM air gap, especially if you want to go back to a stock style hood. Unfortunately most intakes new are in short supply still, check availability. The Performer is definitely more suited to your motor.
