Oil Filter Housing

I am placing a 1969 455 Toronado engine into a 1970 442. It appears I have to replace the oil filter housing due to the Toro housing angling the filter forward. From what I can tell the 442 style hangs the filter straight down. Do I need to do this or am I overthinking it?

Yes the housing needs to be the straight down one. The Toronado unit doesn't work in an A body

There are two styles of oil filter adapter, FWD and RWD. Note that the gasket to the block is also different due to the rotation of the mounting flange relative to the block and thus the different location of the ports in the adapter.
The LH gasket is FWD (Toro). The RH gasket is RWD.

I'm having a tough time locating the RWD housing on line at any of the major parts suppliers. I think I'm going to jump over to "parts wanted" section unless someone can point me to a supplier.

I'd be surprised if anyone sells new ones. There are several on ebay, including one from a diesel with the oil cooler fittings.

Thanks Joe, I guess I gave up too soon on Ebay. Just located one and it's ordered.
Thanks again!
