455 rebuild

Looking at having my 455 redone for the second time in less than 1000 miles. First guy that put it together had no clue about anything Oldsmobile and as a result, it is pretty well junk. Looking for a good builder or shop that can get it done correctly in or around southwest Wisconsin. Thanks for the help.

John@Rocket is a good source, and I ship everywhere as well.

I can't speak to the other engine builders that people have recommended but I've been around the engine world since beginning with GM and GM dealerships 35+ years ago. Easy question---easier answer--- Mark Jones hands down. Here is his phone number and he will ship anywhere. 719-650-1609

I posted the video of the engine he recently built for me for my 1971 442 resto-mod. 550+ HP, lots of oil pressure and runs strong. Good luck on your pursuit.

Very impressive HP # with a factory W30 intake !
And your engine sounds awesome.

Rick----good morning! Thanks for your comments. I get excited every time I fire it up and leave the house for a drive. I also totally agree on the HP numbers although I can't honestly take any credit for those.

It's nice to watch a proficient engine builder harvest all the unrealized HP/TORQUE potentials that are hidden in each type of engine and to address the known or even publicly unknown deficiencies that we lived with years ago when these cars were released. It's been a fun journey for me. Finding the right parts and the key people to help is the struggle nowadays.

Car looks great and I’m glad your happy with the motor, I would be too. I’m thinking those heads gotta be worth a bunch of HP. I’d be curious to know how much less HP with stock cast heads? G, E, F, H for instance, it would be cold to have Dyno sheets and comparisons.

Many say the key to those heads is the intake and carb. Of course many other things come into play. But to achieve that HP on that intake and carb is something that many dream of and don't accomplish. I am also going through a BB build and have been told by many that the stock intake will strangle my motor and crush my dreams. Dave has proved that theory wrong. Paying attention to detail has paid off for Dave and I can only hope for the same as I intend to use my W30 intake as well.
Beautiful build Dave !

Correct, the heads and headers will make a very significant difference vs the stock components.
Nice build though.

Thanks Rick! I wish you the best on your build as well. I know I learned allot from Mark Jones while he was doing my engine build. I watched him take every part and massage it till it was right and working optimally with the next part. It was like a musical orchestra playing a symphony when we fired it up and started watching the numbers. The biggest thing I learned from the project was how poorly many parts are made nowadays and how much work goes into fixing things that a customer still pays high dollar for in the beginning. Attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of combustion engine theory is a must.

If we can get the numbers...I'm sure you can get them too. I was set on that W-30 intake and wanted that OEM look and the hood seal to appear stock. Let me know how yours turns out.
