Me again! Newbie to the world of oldsmobile!
As before I have a 1967 olds 98 with the 425 big block,
What is the best oil to use? I'm based in England, so I don't have to worry to much about oil for winter, oill for summer!
What does everyone else use, as a good all-rounder?
Just ordered this (for $14.67!!) on Walmart.com. Synthetic Blend, It mentions 'Boosted Zinc' on the label and it is a lot cheaper than other oils we tend to use/search for our older Olds'. For 5qts. I hope its not a misprint!

Well Walmart cancelled the first order for that Defy (out of stock) so I did another order for what probably replaced the Defy, just Q state 'High Mileage' which also mentions boosted zinc. Probably need to go to there website to see exactly how much zinc it actually has but hey, same $14.67 price for 5 qts!

Rotella isn’t what it used to be. And just because something says “boosted Zinc” doesn’t becessarily mean it’s enough. You need to know the ppm count.
I use Valvoline VR-1, never an issue, never. Should be available there too.

Thought I would post this for Canadians since we cant get Valvoline VR-1 in the great white North, Rotella is all I use, and many other classic car owners. Has as much zinc and phosphorus as others.
We actually have 20W50 VR1 available at Walmart here in Saskatchewan, $9 per liter. Napa has Lucas Hot Rod oil in 10W30 and 20W50, for a bit more. There is also a few places in Regina that sell Classic Automobile Motor Oil(CAM) 15W40 high ZDDP oil that has the additive pack for motors that sit half the year. It is made by Boss Lubricants in Calgary, Alberta. Unless Quaker State has found a way around it, 0,5 or 10W30 engine oils can only 800 ppm Zinc and 900 ppm Phosphorus for Defy. Supposedly any 40 or 50 weight oil can have much higher levels and still meet the SN spec. The SN+ and SP may be more restrictive.

I am using Mobil 1, 15W50, full synthetic in my 1967 Old's 442 with the 400 ci motor. The Mobil 1 Specification Guide states this oil has 1300 ppm Zinc, and 1200 ppm Phosphorus. The Spec Guide also states it's designed for high temperature, and high stress conditions, and excellent for flat tappet applications. My car seems to love the stuff. Believe it or not, you can get a 5-Qt. jug online from Walmart for $22.37.

Valvoline VR1 20W-50 for several years. Woot (part of Amazon) had it on sale a couple weeks ago for like $20 for a case of 6 which is like $3.33/quart. I bought two cases.
